The Person:
After completing my Secondary School in Slovakia in economics and chemistry, I have decided to explore the world for a different way of life, people, cultures and cuisines.
During my primary education, I was an active handball and basketball player, undertaking different competitions.
I dreamt of becoming a professional handball player. I was fascinated by the speed of the game, the adrenaline rush and, most of all, the structure and silent communication between the players on the pitch. Unfortunately, my dream has never come true. Now, I enjoy watching all types of sports involving those aspects of the game.
As one of my hobbies, I was a member of a folk dance group in my teens. This is the other side of my personality. I love music, dancing and beauty, whether it is expressed via personality or through paintings. My favourite dances are ballroom and latin.
At present, I keep up with regular gym attendance. Exercises help me to keep fit and motivated to continue with my full-time study and work at Perfect Balance.
The Therapist:
Andrea originally qualified in the UK as a dental nurse nine years ago. She has worked at various dental practices within the London area. During her career as a dental nurse, she gained lots of different experiences whilst assisting with general dentistry and also more advanced and specialised restorations, such as titanium implant placement and functional restorations after the implant osteo-integration.
When working in the dental field, Andrea started to notice how dentition can affect other body structures, especially the head, neck area and emotional state, when experiencing dental pain. Furthermore, she started to realise how dental problems can change the quality of daily living.
After completion of Beauty Therapy and Swedish Massage courses whilst working as a dental nurse, she started to see connections between the different parts of the body. She has gained further understanding of how emotions and stress can contribute to our general health.
With this basic understanding, she has decided to look into a new profession, such as Osteopathy. She believes that Osteopathy will complete her picture of the academic field and her knowledge in order to treat each individual and not the disease.
At present, Andrea is a third-year Osteopathic student at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has special interest in biomechanics and orthopaedics.
Currently, she is treating musculo-skeletal conditions using different methods, such as soft tissue techniques, muscle-energy techniques, neuro-muscular techniques, strain-counter strain techniques along with exercise and relaxation techniques to help restore function and structure of the muscle tissue and aid the prevention of future injuries.
As an addition to these techniques, she is able to offer de-stressing massage using an holistic approach to help with relaxation, concentration and coping with the mechanism of daily living.
