At 21 Slim qualified (abroad) as a Physiotherapist, and worked for 6 months in a neuro-surgery unit within a hospital. Slim then joined a health spa, again as a physiotherapist, and became the manager within 12 months. It was at this point Slim discovered Pilates.

Through various Body Control Pilates Academy (BCPA) teachers and Lynn Robinson the co-founder of the BCPA, Slim became inspired to train as an instructor himself. In 2002 Slim qualified with his first mat work qualification through Body Control Pilates and since then has continued to develop his Pilates teaching skills. With a background of physiotherapy, Slim has been able to use Pilates to work successfully with even the most challenging injury rehabilitation cases.

Slims teaching is focused on alignment based on clear understanding of posture and stability, using mat and equipment based Pilates exercises. With precision and incredible care he understands each every client's individuality allowing every client to progress and improve in a very safe and efficient way.

He remains dedicated to continuing education and development with the BCPA.

Freemotion Pilates

As well as teaching Classical Pilates classes for Freemotion Paula also teaches for Virgin Active, Gym Space, David Lloyd and Esporta. She is also very proud to be the resident Pilates teacher for the BBC in Elstree.

 

Because she is also a qualified Personal Trainer she is able to work with individuals on a one to one basis to really get the best out of a session. Paula has an understanding of what it takes to gain and maintain a healthy functioning system. She is currently exploring in more detail how diet effects not only your performance but your general wellbeing and ability to function efficiently in every day tasks.  “You may not be aware, but if you have bad posture it will effect the way you digest your meals and prevent you from getting the most nutrition out of the food you eat”

 

As a Bodyworker, it is her belief that everybody should have a free range of motion enabling them to live life to the full. No matter what your age or physical ability Pilates can help you to improve your strength and flexibility and restore your sense of wellbeing.

 

In her six years as a Freemotion Bodyworker Paula has worked with all sorts of people ranging from the very fit to those who have never exercised and even those recovering from heart surgery and cancer.

Freemotion Yoga

The Ashtanga system is a set order of steps that a practitioner can work through in order to reach a state of Yoga meaning (union) within ones self.  The first or primary series, called Yoga Chikitsa, which means yoga therapy, realigns the spine, detoxifies the body, and builds strength, flexibility and stamina. The series of about 75 poses takes an hour and a half to two hours to complete, beginning with salutation to the sun A and B moving on to standing poses, seated poses, inversions and backbends before relaxation.  As a fully qualified personal training and Pilates teacher Michael can also offer one to one sessions.

 

 

Is Ashtanga for You?

Ashtanga yoga is extremely popular - it is a vigorous, athletic style of practice.  That being said it has a softer side, which is sometimes forgotten.  This mixture of hard and soft, which makes it a very popular and rewarding style of yoga.  It appeals to those who like a sense of order and who like to do things independently Ashtanga is challenging and fun. It requires cultivation of the ability to recognize your limitations and not try to do everything during first few months.  The practice should be Comfortable and evolve naturally building the strength and develop the flexibility over time, we do our weightlifting using our own body weight in the poses.  Ashtanga is a great complement to many other physical Activities, it will cultivate balance, reduce injuries and it will make everything else in your life seem easier.
