Kids and Adult Stretching Sessions
For a long time, people and animals have known about the benefits of regular stretches and exercises to help keep the body, spine and limbs free from restriction.
We have broken down our stretching exercises group into different levels to help cater for all types of people, from professional athletes doing warm-up stretches, pregnancy stretching and stretching for particular conditions. Our therapists are able to guide you through the best stretches you can do for certain conditions and combine them with foam rolling to get excellent results that leave you feeling great. Below are listed the main areas we concentrate on during group sessions to get you maximum results. When you come to a group tailored to your needs, you will be screened to see what you need to work on to make sure you get results.
Kids Stretching Classes
At the clinic we run specific kids stretching classes for those children between the ages of 10 and 16 that are playing regular sport or just want to work on improving their posture. It would be great if all our clients had started stretching when they were kids, they would have all benefitted from the increased flexibility and possibly reduced aches and pains that we suffer in adult life. The stretching sessions are run at regular times and are carried out by fully qualified instructors. Parents are encouraged to watch so that they can go through some of the stretches at home with the children, for maximum benefit.
Adult Stretching Sessions
We also run adult stretching sessions which we will take you through basic to more advanced stretches, making sure you do them right every step of the way, and get the most from each session. The sessions also involve use of the foam rollers which are a great addition to the stretching exercises and really help accelerate the relaxation of tight aching muscles. Stretching will become part of your everyday life and we will make sure you are doing the right stretches for the right muscles by carrying out analysis before hand to see where you are suffering and could benefit from stretches.
Here are the common areas that we work on in both the childrens and the adult stretching sessions.
Hamstring stretch
The hamstring stretch is one of the most common stretches we prescribe in our clinics and can be a very useful tool in the treatment of lower back pain. If you suffer from back pain, leg stiffness or weakness/imbalances in the leg muscles, then this is a great place to start. The hamstring stretch can be performed in many ways and can help to reduce many conditions when used in conjunction with the rest of the stretching exercises in our groups.
Quad stretches
Do you play regular sports? Then more often than not, you will suffer from tightness in the quadricep (quad) muscles. When used in conjunction with the rest of our leg stretches in our stretching groups, you will see immediate benefits. Within the quad stretches, you will be shown how to use the foam roller for self-myofascial release, allowing for an ultimate release of muscle tension.
Calf stretches
Another often overlooked area in exercise is calf stretches. You may suffer from tight calf muscles if you wear high heels or have a job that involves lots of driving, walking or sitting down. The calf muscles can become tight from overuse or underuse. Regular calf stretches can help to improve the foot function and work alongside any foam rolling or myofascial release you are currently doing. Stretching and strengthening your calf muscles can affect your athletic ability as the muscles are able to respond better if they are recovered from activity in the correct way. Calf stretches are the choice of champions!
Glute stretches/Piriformis stretches
Taking care of the hip region and using glute and piriformis stretches allows for better recovery during intense exercise or lots of sitting. You will notice a trend developing here: muscles can benefit from stretching when they are overused or underused. You need to know when is appropriate to stretch them for the best results. The glutes (buttock) region is the power house of the legs; they are certainly the first to know about it when we stop exercising and the first to know about it when we start exercising! We need to use them more to improve trunk stability and help with better posture.
Arm stretches and upper body stretches
Last but not least, in our classes we integrate upper body stretches to allow for a full all-over body stretching routine. The fundamental reason we stretch is to help maintain proper muscle balance across joints, and the upper body is no exception to this rule. Upper body stretches and arm stretches help to restore better functioning by optimising the positions of the arms and shoulders during movement, thus allowing for better range of movement and ease of movement. You will feel the benefit from not forgetting to stretch this very important area.
Many people leave our stretching classes feeling tall and lighter after relieving all that stored tension. Clients who benefit from stretching include Olympic athletes, runners, cyclists, triathletes, desk workers, pregnant ladies and children. This is definitely a group for anyone wanting to improve their flexibility.
