Physiotherapy is a very good treatment for many sports-related injuries or discomforts, whether you are a professional sportsperson, an amateur or somebody who enjoys sports for leisure. We would like to provide you with as much information as you need on Physiotherapy to help you to make a decision on whether it is the right treatment for you. Our Physiotherapists help sportspeople to recover from injury and reach their peak performance. They also provide advice on how to prevent future injuries.
Below are listed some common FAQs and complaints sportspeople often ask before coming to see us.
Specialist sports Physiotherapy aims to provide the highest levels of care. Our specialist sports Physiotherapy treatments include:
· mobilisation and manipulation of joints
· soft tissue techniques
· acupuncture
· specific exercise prescription for the prevention and rehabilitation of injury and chronic pain
· taping to protect joints and injured tissues
· assessment and treatment of postural, pelvic and spinal misalignment
· biomechanical assessment of movements through video analysis
· techniques to assist in recovery from training and competition
· retraining to prevent recurring injuries.
In discussion with the client, our Physiotherapists will complete a thorough case history related to the injury, perform an appropriate physical examination and then determine a specific, individual treatment plan to achieve the required goals in the shortest time possible. The aim is to get you back in to that sport you love or that training programme to which you are dedicated!
There are many different types of injury people pick up from playing sport or during everyday life, but certain body parts tend to be more prone to damage than others. Some of the more common injuries include:
· ankle sprain
· repetitive strain injuries (RSI)
· whiplash
· Achilles tendinitis
· back pain
· groin strain
· hamstring strain
· knee joint injury
· runner’s knee
· shin splints
· shoulder injury
· tennis/golf elbow.
Whatever your interest in sport, personal or professional, an injury is frustrating for anyone. Therefore, we pride ourselves on coordinating every aspect of your treatment process, facilitating a prompt return to sport and training.
Sports injuries are commonly caused by overuse, direct impact or an application of force that is greater than the body part can structurally withstand.
Sportspeople who need to see a Physiotherapist often have injuries, new or old, and are frustrated with not being able to get better, and back to being pain free and at the top of their game.
If this sounds like you, then think about speaking to us – we would like to help!
No, not necessarily. We can see you on the day of your injury and make sure you receive the correct treatment promptly. If you are able to claim on your health insurance, we can arrange this in most cases so the cost to you may be nothing at all!
It is always advisable to seek treatment as soon as possible. Early treatment can mean a quick recovery with less time off work or away from training.

Physiotherapists are medically recognised and often work closely alongside GPs and consultants. Although all Chartered Physiotherapists follow the same route to gain their qualifications, they often specialise in other areas that complement their skills, such as acupuncture and the Alexander Technique.
At Perfect Balance Clinic, our Physiotherapists are an important part of our team and provide expertise in rehabilitation from surgery and also sports injuries.

97% of all of our clients feel an improvement after their first session. We pride ourselves on our ability to make a change quickly with our unique and highly effective approach to sports injuries. This means that you can quickly get to the bottom of what’s causing your pain, receive treatment for this, and leave feeling much better and ready to get back to peak fitness.
We are also honest so, if like the 3% of people that we referred back to their GP, we can't help you immediately, we will tell you. By sending you to the right place to deal with your sports-specific problem, we ensure a speedy recovery. It wouldn't be right to say 100% of our clients feel better from what we do but, actually, our ability to know what we can and can't treat ensures you are safe and in the right place to recover from your sports injury, so you are ready to train or compete again.
Should you decide to come to see us, this is what happens during your first session:
Your clinician will greet you and begin by asking what brings you to the clinic. From here, you will go through a detailed case history, which doesn't really take long, but is essential to see what we are dealing with. Once your clinician has taken enough detail, they will then carry out an examination in all cases, to make sure your symptoms match the clinical signs to isolate the cause of the problem.
Before starting any treatment, the clinician will explain in understandable terms what he or she believes to be the cause of the problem.
After the examination and reporting process is complete, your clinician will carry out a full treatment.
Ideally, you should come with suitable clothing/underwear so that an accurate diagnosis of the problem can be made. Usually sportswear, such as a pair of shorts and a vest or sports bra are suitable. We want you to feel comfortable and this is a priority to us. If you'd like to bring someone along, such as a chaperone, that’s fine too. We are very friendly but we understand that it can be a bit nerve-racking going to your first appointment.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
