Below are listed some common FAQs and complaints that people looking for Sports Injury Massage often ask before coming to see us.

How do I know if sports massage will be suitable for me?

Sports Massage may not be suitable for everyone but our skilled practitioners will carry out a thorough medical assessment to make sure there are no problems. They will assess each individual and provide the appropriate massage techniques, advising on alternative action if required.

Our Sports Massage Therapists work as part of our team and are quick to point out if you will benefit more quickly from another of the team members’ expertise, such as Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Podiatry or Sports Therapy/corrective exercise. We want you to get the most out of your sessions with us each time you use our services.

What should I expect from a Sports Injury Massage?

Sports Massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body, including muscles, ligaments and tendons. It is also a highly efficient method of helping to relieve the symptoms of a sports injury.

The techniques used by Sports Massage Practitioners have been developed to ensure effective and efficient results are gained from each massage given. The reported benefits of Sports Massage include:

·         improved circulation and lymphatic flow

·         assistance in the removal of metabolic waste

·         separation or stimulation of nerve endings

·         increased or decreased muscle tone

·         increased or decreased muscle length

·         remodelling of scar tissue when required

·         assistance in mental preparation for sporting events.

Should I see a Physiotherapist first?

Our Sports Injury Massage Practitioners are trained to take a full history from you when you come in to help formulate the best form of treatment for you. They attend regular training to ensure our standards are maintained at all times with regards to their background knowledge and also their hands-on experience.

In some circumstances, the sports massage therapist may advise that you see one of our other medical staff, either a Physiotherapist or an Osteopath, who will help with the diagnosis and further management of your condition.

Can I benefit from sports massage if I don’t play sports?

To benefit from a Sports Massage, you do not need to play active sports. The benefits can also help to relieve many day-to-day problems that many people experience. We ensure that you receive an individually-tailored, high-quality massage.

Our practitioners work with a great range of clients. If you are a sports performer, of any level, from a professional to somebody who enjoys exercise for leisure, a sports-specific massage can be beneficial at various stages of participation, for example:

·         post-travel

·         injury prevention

·         injury recovery

·         the conditioning/training phase

·         pre-competition

·         inter-competition

·         post-competition.

Regardless of your experiences in sport or exercise, whether you exercise socially or compete to an international level, Sports Massage at a Perfect Balance Clinic has something to offer you.

What is your success rate of treating sports injuries with massage?

97% of all of our clients feel an improvement after their first session. We pride ourselves on our ability to make a change quickly with our unique and highly effective approach to sports injuries. This means that you can quickly get to the bottom of what’s causing your pain, receive treatment for this, and leave feeling much better and ready to get back to peak fitness.

We are also honest so, if like the 3% of people that we referred back to their GP, we can't help you immediately, we will tell you. By sending you to the right place to deal with your sports-specific problem, we ensure a speedy recovery. It wouldn't be right to say 100% of our clients feel better from what we do but, actually, our ability to know what we can and can't treat ensures you are safe and in the right place to recover from your sports injury, so you are ready to train or compete again.

What will happen during my first session with a Sports Injury Massage Therapist?

Should you decide to come to see us, this is what happens during your first session:
Your clinician will greet you and begin by asking what brings you to the clinic. From here, you will go through a detailed case history, which doesn't really take long, but is essential to see what we are dealing with. Once your clinician has taken enough detail, they will then carry out an examination in all cases, to make sure your symptoms match the clinical signs to isolate the cause of the problem.

Before starting any treatment, the clinician will explain in understandable terms what he or she believes to be the cause of the problem.

After the examination and reporting process is complete, your clinician will carry out a full treatment.

Ideally, you should come with suitable clothing/underwear so that an accurate diagnosis of the problem can be made. Usually sportswear, such as a pair of shorts and a vest or sports bra are suitable. We want you to feel comfortable and this is a priority to us. If you'd like to bring someone along, such as a chaperone, that’s fine too. We are very friendly but we understand that it can be a bit nerve-racking going to your first appointment.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to
contact us.
