What is Gait Analysis?

Gait analysis is the assessment of the way a person walks. This can be done with video analysis, pressure plate analysis and through observation and interpretation by our highly skilled podiatrists.

Using innovative technology, pressure plate analysis can identify abnormal foot pressures and movements during the footstep that are not visible to the eye. It is used alongside a physical and treadmill examination to diagnose lower limb conditions.

Why is Gait Analysis important?

When a small problem develops in your feet, subtle changes in the way you walk will cause a chain reaction of adjustments in your posture and walking mechanics. These adjustments can put stress on joints higher up your body, and lead to more serious problems.

Orthotics (supportive shoe inserts) alongside exercises are able to minimise these abnormal movements and associated stresses. Our bio-mechanical assessment is a repeatable way of being able to help make the right decision regarding treatment.

Who can benefit from Gait Analysis?

Our clients range from athletes to children who need to get an orthotic device that works with their shoes, is comfortable to wear and is affordable. We also see many diabetic patients who need to get something for their shoes to reduced pressure sores and prevent deterioration of foot related problems. We have many options to help ensure we are able to meet the expectations of almost all the clients we see for gait analysis.
