Team Anna

About Anna Robinson

My goal is to make a real difference in each client’s life throughout the time we work together and beyond.  I believe that by understanding the interplay between physical and emotional wellbeing, clients can truly be empowered. I often work in conjunction with physical health professionals to help clients overcome emotional blocks/challenges and motivate them towards holistic health outcomes.

I am passionate about emotional wellbeing and clients tell me that they value my empathy, compassion, and tenacity for supporting them in re-building emotionally gratifying lives.

I am experienced in working on a time-limited basis, with a specific focus on immediate issues of concern, as well as on a longer-term basis, to deeply explore often intricate issues rooted in the past and/or in the body that remain unresolved. I have a particular interest in working therapeutically with body-mind presentations.

I trained at Regent’s University, London where I gained a Masters’ degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling.  This in-depth study of therapeutic disciplines allows me to adapt my approach to the particular client in front of me and to co-create enriching therapeutic benefits, as well as experience first-hand how clients’ lives change.

Past experience / employment

I initially worked as a solicitor in the City and soon began to recognise the pervading effects of stress, anxiety and depression in the workplace. This ignited a curiosity about the impact and value of emotional wellbeing in the workplace and in peoples’ lives generally. Intrigued by how I could make a difference, I realised that my personality and temperament may be suited to working therapeutically and this fuelled a desire to re-train as a psychotherapist.

En route to qualifying as a psychotherapist, I undertook an extended six-year clinical placement at The Wimbledon Guild, a large counselling charity. I provided long-term counselling to a culturally and socioeconomically diverse client base who presented with a wide spectrum of emotional issues. I also assessed potential clients for suitability to engage in one to one therapy via risk assessments, benchmark evaluations, and referral management.

Beyond long-term counselling in the charity sector, I have counselled clients on a time-limited basis for the NHS. As an honorary staff counsellor at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, I supported and attended to the emotional needs of medical staff. In this role, I honed my skills in brief, focused therapy which provided invaluable insights into the emotional conflicts at the employee/organisational interface which now inform my approach to workplace counselling.

At the severe end of the mental health spectrum, I have assisted the Community Mental Health Team at Hertfordshire Partnership NHS, by working with psychiatrists, social workers, forensic teams, multidisciplinary assessors and review teams to attend to the psychological needs of the most emotionally vulnerable members of the community

Currently, I work across many mental health initiatives, including advising on workplace wellbeing practices and providing psychoeducation services. Yet, I remain dedicated to one to one counselling and psychotherapy as I find it extremely rewarding to provide the attentiveness, containment, and understanding to support clients.

In my private practice, I greatly appreciate working with a varied client base and a range of wellbeing presentations. Experience has taught me to never forget what it is like to sit in the client’s chair.

I am experienced working with:

  • Work related pressures

  • Bullying
  • Low self-confidence
  • Anxiety
