About Ellie Mooney

Growing up in sunny Queensland, Australia, and in a very active family, sport and exercise has always been a constant in my life. It was therefore inevitable that my passion for healthy living and keen interest in how the human body functions and responds to movement led me to complete an undergraduate degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology and several Pilates qualifications. After a few years working in the field, the thirst to try something new brought me to London and I haven’t looked back! I believe my background in exercise rehabilitation combined with Pilates makes for very a unique and well-rounded treatment.

Past experience

I graduated with a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology in 2015 from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. During my degree I completed over 500 hours of professional placement through four practicums. These covered the following specialities: “Healthy Populations”; Cardiorespiratory and Metabolic Disorders; Neurological, Psychological and Musculoskeletal Disorders; and Research into Hamstring Strain Injuries. I completed my healthy populations placement at a semi-professional rugby league club and went on to work there for three seasons. Throughout this period, I gained experience in programming and delivering strength and conditioning sessions, as well as individualised and group rehabilitation programs, GPS tracking and analysis, and player injury strapping.

In addition to this, I have three years of experience working in a multidisciplinary clinic as an Exercise Physiologist. This role involved prescribing specialised exercise programs to treat or manage a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions and injuries. Here, I worked closely alongside physiotherapists, dietitians, remedial massage therapists, podiatrists and psychologists to provide a thorough and holistic approach to the treatment of each client. My passion for helping others work towards their health of fitness goals led me to initiate several client-specific programs. These included a walking group to promote healthy living, as well as separate group classes targeting clients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Parkinson’s Disease.

It was during this time that I began to see a lot of clients with lower back pain, postural-related neck and shoulder pain, joint instability and many more pathologies linked to a desk-bound and sedentary lifestyle, and from there I discovered the positive health benefits of Pilates. I undertook four Pilates instructor courses, and now have close to three years of teaching experience in both a class and 1:1 capacity.
