About Helen Harrison

I have over 20 years of experience as a physiotherapist, and specialised in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions very early on in my career.

Great physiotherapy involves many things, good history taking, great communications skills, being a good teacher, keen skills of observation, an ability to self-critique and a constantly enquiring mind. I pride myself on having all those skills. I am an especially good communicator and love meeting people, working with them and making treatment as much fun as possible.

As well as these really important skills, my experience has taught me that being able to feel what is going on in the joints and soft tissues, and having great hands-on skills are absolutely vital. Over 23 years of practice, I have honed these skills and my hands are my most important tools when it comes to the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.

Past experience / employment

I qualified as a physiotherapist from Liverpool University in 1996 and spent 7 years working in the NHS.I started out in a large city hospital (Peterborough) working in all the different specialities before specialising in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. As a Senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist, I went to work in GP practices, setting up and developing the physiotherapy service.

In 2004, I set up my own successful physiotherapy practice in Northamptonshire, which I ran for 14 years until I relocated to London following standing for Parliament in 2017. I also worked as a Research Physiotherapist on the treatment of Whiplash injuries and I have completed many post-graduate courses, and keep up-to-date with current issues and the latest research in physiotherapy and beyond.

Having broken my leg badly in a skiing accident, and being a poor, but enthusiastic runner, I know how frustrating injury is.

I have huge empathy for those struggling to overcome injury and to stay injury free. It is a great privilege to do the job that I do and one that gives me daily job satisfaction.
