SPORTS THERAPIST

Sophie Storrow

From previously working in professional and semi-professional rugby and football, as well as in a clinical environment, I have experience providing high quality care for a variety of clients from sedentary to elite athletes, allowing me to assess, manage and rehabilitate both acute and chronic injuries throughout the body.

For every injury, my aim is to help the client return to full fitness, both physiologically and psychologically, providing them with the confidence to continue with all aspects of their daily routine, whether that’s walking the dog or competing in an elite competition, with no pain, discomfort or worry of reinjury.

It also gives me great satisfaction combining my Sports Therapy and Strength and Conditioning background to assess a client’s strengths and weaknesses through the study of muscle imbalance and asymmetry and to provide an individualised structured treatment programme to improve performance and reduce the risk of injury.

Competing in gymnastics from the age of 3 to 16 as part of the Welsh National Tumbling Gymnastics Squad, followed by coaching gymnastics to children, provided me with my initial passion and enthusiasm for sport, health, and fitness. As gymnastics training is primarily focussed on improving biomechanics through strength, mobility, flexibility, and co-ordination, this, as well as the inevitable number of injuries I obtained, began my interest into movement analysis and rehabilitation of injuries which continued into my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Working with Cardiff Blues Rugby Club senior squad as part of my university placement year gave me excellent experience of working in a professional team environment and the opportunity to work alongside experienced therapists. Following this, over the last 5 years, I have also gained experience working with international sports teams including the All Blacks, South Africa Rugby Team, New Orleans NFL, Oakland Raiders, NFL and Australia Women’s Cricket.

Working in a clinical environment has also given me an ideal opportunity to work with athletes competing in a vast number of sports including netball, Brazilian jiu jitsu, marathon running, tennis, American football and rowing, enabling me to take an holistic approach to assessing an individual and giving me the opportunity to provide clients with a structured and progressive rehabilitation programme essential in meeting their individual needs.
