    SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

Reduce Inflammation, Pain And Restore Movement

In our Perfect Balance Clinics in Harpenden and the surrounding areas, we use shockwave therapy to accelerate the healing process of injured tendons, and it is especially effective where other treatments have failed.

We can get you in on the same day

What Are The Most Common Conditions We Treat With Shockwaves?

Rediscover pain-free movement from these very common, painful conditions:

Tennis Elbow: This painful condition involves inflammation of a tendon attachment on the lateral elbow. Shockwaves can reduce the pain considerably.

Painful Shoulder Conditions: You can have pain-free movement restored.

Golfer’s Elbow: Reduce the pain of this condition, which involves an inflamed tendon on the medial elbow.

Hip Bursitis (bursitis trochanterica): Shockwaves can relieve the pain.

Patella Tip Syndrome: Relieve the pain of this, which is caused by inflammation of the point of attachment of the patellar ligament in the knee.

Shin Splints: This is very common in runners, and shockwaves can help you recover from this. It involves inflammation of the tibial edge and is caused by excessive strain.

Achilles Tendonitis: This is an irritation of the Achilles tendon, and shockwaves can speed the healing of this.

Plantar Fasciitis: You can walk freely again without heel pain.

    What To Expect From
    Shockwave Therapy Treatment

Initially, you will have a consultation with your Shockwave Therapist, to discuss your symptoms, and to find out where the source of pain is. The therapist will then mark the part of your body on which the therapy will be applied. A gel will be used on this area in order to optimise the contact between your skin and the device which will be applying the shockwaves. During the therapy, a handpiece is held on the area, which delivers pulsations to the site of pain for just a few minutes, depending on the condition being treated. These energy waves are then able to stimulate your body’s own natural healing response.

Is Shockwave Therapy Right For Me?

All our therapists at Perfect Balance Clinics are highly ethical, and will therefore ensure that Shockwave Therapy is the correct treatment option for you before you commence any treatment. Shockwave Therapy can produce incredible results, but we have to be certain that you are the right candidate for the treatment, and that there are no contraindications.

    Who Will Perform The Treatment?

Your treatment would be carried out by one of our highly trained therapists. All therapists perform a full medical history so that they know what the correct clinical application is for the use of shockwave therapy on the injured part of your body.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

Normally, only between one and three sessions are needed, but this all depends on the condition that you are being treated for. In fact, more than three sessions within a set period of time are never indicated, and on the contrary, too many sessions would impair the healing process. For this reason, our standard package offer includes the optimum number of three sessions.

    Contraindications to Having Shockwave

Pregnancy, presence of cardiac pacemaker, over or near growth plates in children, malignancy near the area being treated, open wounds skin rashes ,infection or swelling to the area, over ischemic tissues in individuals with vascular disease, coagulation disorder or taking any anticoagulant/antiplatelet medications. Shockwave cannot be performed over the lung field or within three months of having a Cortico-Steroid injection.
