What Are The Most Common Conditions We Treat With Shockwaves?

If you suffer from any of the following common, painful conditions, you can once again experience pain-free movement:

Be free of the debilitating ache of tennis elbow, which is caused by inflammation of a tendon attachment on the lateral elbow.

Have free movement of your shoulder restored in stubborn painful shoulder conditions.

Experience reduced pain of golfer’s elbow, a condition which results from an inflamed tendon which attaches on the medial elbow.

Be free of the pain of hip bursitis (bursitis trochanterica).

Have knee pain relief from patella tip syndrome, which involves an inflammation of the point of attachment of the patellar ligament of the knee.

Recover from shin splints, which is the bane of runners, and is caused by excessive strain creating inflammation of the tibial edge.

You can accelerate the healing of Achilles Tendonitis, which is an irritation of the Achilles tendon.

Experience free movement and walk free from the inflammation and heel pain of plantar fasciitis.

    What To Expect From
    Shockwave Therapy Treatment

Initially, your therapist will have a discussion with you to determine your symptoms and the exact location of the source of pain. The therapist will then mark this area, which is where the Shockwave therapy will be applied. A gel will be used so that the contact between your skin and the application device is optimised. The shockwave therapy is applied using a handheld device that delivers pulsations of energy to the site of the pain for just a few minutes, depending upon the condition being treated. The shockwaves then stimulate your body’s own natural healing mechanisms.

Treatment with shockwaves is completely painless. Sometimes patients report some minor discomfort in the muscle for one or two days following treatment. This is perfectly natural and occurs because of how the treatment works – by causing micro-injury to the muscle, which is what stimulates the muscle to repair itself naturally, in the same way, that weight training causes the muscles to strengthen. The majority of patients report few or no issues at all after their treatments.

Is Shockwave Therapy Right For Me?

All our therapists in Perfect Balance Clinics are highly ethical, and will therefore ensure that treatment with Shockwaves is appropriate for you and your condition. Although Shockwave Therapy is capable of producing amazing results, we must make absolutely sure that you are the right candidate for this treatment and that there are no contraindications.

    Who Will Perform The Treatment?

Shockwave Therapy is carried out by one of our professional therapists, who are trained in delivering the shockwave treatment to the affected part of your body. Before any treatment commences, all therapists take a full medical history from our patients so that they can ascertain the correct clinical indication for the use of shockwave therapy on whichever body part is being treated.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

Normally, only between one and three sessions are required, depending on the condition that is being treated. It is not necessary or desirable to carry out more than three treatment sessions in a set period of time, as this may in fact impair the healing process. This is why our standard package offer includes three sessions.

    Contraindications to Having Shockwave

Pregnancy, presence of cardiac pacemaker, over or near growth plates in children, malignancy near the area being treated, open wounds skin rashes ,infection or swelling to the area, over ischemic tissues in individuals with vascular disease, coagulation disorder or taking any anticoagulant/antiplatelet medications. Shockwave cannot be performed over the lung field or within three months of having a Cortico-Steroid injection.
