SENIOR SPORTS THERAPIST
Hannah Ainge
Throughout my life I have always been involved in sport. Starting off in trampolining, gymnastics and competitive swimming before dedicating 10 years to becoming a 2nd Dan black belt and national karate champion for several years running. Whilst doing these and trying everything else in between, I developed a passion for how the human body works and saw my fair share of injuries. This led me to studying Sports Science and Injury Rehabilitation (BSC Hons) at York St John University and furthered my education with an MSc in Sports and Exercise Therapy from Leeds Beckett University.
Whilst studying, I developed a keen interest in the psychology of injury and the working mechanics of the body and use both of these to provide a holistic approach to treatment and prioritise the person before the injury.
For these reasons, I have a particular interest in sports injuries and would love to further my specialism towards lower limb injuries.
I graduated from York St John University with a First Class BSc in Sports Science and Injury Rehabilitation in 2018 and from Leeds Beckett University with an MSc in Sports and Exercise Therapy (Merit) in 2019.
For the past 2 years I have been specialising in spinal health care. This had allowed me to gain experience working with a range of chronic and acute injuries, specialising in using K-Laser, Radial Shockwave and rehabilitation programmes for a range of conditions. Since lower back and neck pain are extremely common, this role has provided me with invaluable knowledge with the interplay between the spine and other musculoskeletal conditions.
Prior to this, at university I worked within a range of sporting environments, working with elite and amateur level footballers, rugby players and Team GB athletes. I had the opportunity to gain valuable experience within professional and elite football and rugby clubs such as Leeds Rhinos and Harrogate Town FC.
Through a scholarship programme at York St John University, I was able to solely provide sports massage and injury rehabilitation support for an ex-Team GB cyclist and current Team GB rowing candidate. I have also previously worked as Assistant Sports Therapist for Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy, delivering rehabilitation and manual therapy, injury prevention and athlete development.
